Signs of the Zodiac are not to be confused with the constellations of the same name.  Signs are based on the seasons and
the yearly interplay between our planet, earth, and the Sun.  This interplay is observed on the
ecliptic which is the apparent
path of the Sun around our earth.

The ecliptic is divided into the Signs of the Zodiac which are 30 degrees apiece and begin about the 21st of each month.
Signs of the Zodiac are very ancient and are not to be confused with our yearly calendar months which begin in January

The astrological calendar begins at the Spring equinox when we have equal day and night.  At that time the Sun is listed in
the Sign of Aries and will be in Aries for approximately 30 days; totaling 30 degrees.  The equinoxes and solstices are called
the cardinal points of the Zodiac and therefore Aries/Libra and Cancer/Capricorn are called Cardinal Signs.  These signs
indicate the four seasons of Spring, Autumn, Summer and Winter.
