|SO MANY HOLY THINGS IN 12
J. Sue Gagliardi
|Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury; let me give comfort,
Where there is doubt; faith,
and sadness; joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek *
To be loved as to love;
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in forgiving that we are forgiven;
And it is in dying that we come to know eternal life.
|You may note that this prayer is divided into twelve parts after Lord, make me an instrument of Your Peace;
Let me sow love is connected to Aries and the 1st House. Let me give comfort is associated with Taurus and the
2nd House. Faith belongs to the Gemini 3rd House; hope to the Cancer 4th, light to the Leo 5th, and joy to the
Virgo 6th House.
The next part begins with the Libra 7th house love as opposite the first house sowing love and asks that one may
not so much seek to be loved as to love; Scorpio 8th house to be consoled as to console; Sagittarius 9th House
to be understood as to understand.
Then, Saint Francis explains the Capricorn 10th House, for it is in giving that we receive; the Aquarius 11th
House, it is in forgiving that we are forgiven; the Pisces 12 House, it is in dying that we come to know eternal life.
The prayer actually meant more to me, then, as a great universal expression from one man to all Man.
Going back many years to the psalmists; the 23rd psalm has the same quality and quantity of 12:
|The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me on the path of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yes, even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil for you are with me.
Your rod and staff comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies to anoint my head with oil.
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life
and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.
|Interesting, to me, that both of these prayers have been my favorites since childhood. They just sing to my soul.
I color them to match the Age in which they were written; Pisces and Aries, respectively.

|Years ago I noted the prayer of Saint Francis appeared to be in 12 parts and I wrote an article on it. I
compared it to the Signs of the Zodiac. Here it is, summarized, below:
